FLIPnHOTDOGblog

July 30th, 2011

FLIPnHOTDOGblogAt FLIPnOUT, we like crazy stuff. Especially crazy stuff that’s also crazy FUN! And during the summer months, what’s more fun than a hot-dog grilling party over an open fire or a backyard grill? Well, besides a trip to FLIPnOUT , of course.

If a BBQ is in your future, start thinking outside the hot-dog box before you reach for the ketchup and mustard. Hot dogs can be the perfect canvas for creativity – delicious creativity, that is! We found some crazy-creative recipes for you to try:

Mac ‘n Dog

Two of your favorites in one! Put the ketchup away and top your dog with delicious mac and cheese! If you’ve ever cut up your dogs to put in your mac, you’ll love this alternative.

Spaghetti Dogs

Want to wow your friends? Cut up your dogs into 2-inch sections and puncture each end with 4 or 5 uncooked spaghetti noodles. Then boil the dogs, noodles and all. The result will be chunks of dogs with a “fringe” of spaghetti. Top with your favorite sauce!

Casserole it!

Take layers to a new level and pile up hash brown patties, bacon, baked beans, canned corn and French fries and top them with thin slices of cooked corndogs. It’s like all the best summer foods in one casserole dish!

Hot Burger

Can’t decide between a hot dog or hamburger? Don’t! Take an uncooked hot dog and wrap it in a raw hamburger patty. Then hit the grill! Your only problem will be deciding between a hamburger or hot dog bun!

Do you have crazy hot dog recipes? Let us know!

Curfew Call

July 28th, 2011

Curfew CallYou’ve likely heard the saying, “Nothing good ever happens after midnight.”

And while it may bring back memories of your mother in a housecoat and you sneaking in too late, at FLIPnOUT, we believe that proverb is true. But, around here, we also believe that before midnight, anything goes!

Did you know that FLIPnOUT is open til 12 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays? That means hours of great fun for you and your family, or a safe place to drop the kiddos and friends off for the evening. No need to worry around here – our free jump sessions provide wholesome, healthy, activity for families and kids of all ages.

And for night owls, we’re perfect. Have some late-night pizza or start a rousing game of air hockey in-between your jump sessions.

With FLIPnOUT, a midnight curfew never sounded so good!

Learn the Moves!

Getting bored with the same old jumping around? Well, come over to our place – it’s the perfect venue for trying out a new stunt or perfecting an old standby. And even if you weren’t born an acrobat, you might be surprised just how you can move with a little bounce under your feet. Try a couple of these “advanced” moves, care of Active Toys:

Barani

This trampoline move is similar to the somersault. The only difference is you twist your body as you perform the flip.

Double somersault

This trampoline move can be performed backwards or forwards. You perform a flip in the air twice and land with your body vertical.

One and three

In this trampoline move you perform a one and three quarter front somersault landing on your back.

Two and three

In this trampoline move you perform a two and three quarter front somersault landing on your back.

Randy

In this trampoline move you perform a two and a half front somersault while your body is twisting.

Back In Full

In this trampoline move you perform a double back somersault with a full twist of the body on the second somersault.

Full, Full

In this trampoline move you perform a double back somersault with a full twist of the body on both somersaults.

Got a great move? We want to hear about it!

Summer Daze?

June 22nd, 2011

Summer Daze?
The sun is shining, the days are long, and your kids are – playing video games??Something’s not right about this situation.
Everyone knows the best summers are spent OUT of the house – and that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank. In fact, why not think back to your own childhood summers (we’re pretty sure video games were called MONOPOLY back then). You never know, maybe your kids will enjoy the simple life.
Learning to skip rocks-Front yard picnics- Back yard campouts- Fishing - Making homemade ice cream (outside!)- Running through the sprinklers-Picking flowers and delivering them to neighbors-Planting vegetables-Gazing for cloud shapes- Building a fort-Building a tree house-Collecting insects

Of course, this IS a different age, so it these ideas don’t cure boredom, we know that a little jumping will! Long summer days are a whole lot more enjoyable with a high-energy session at FLIPnOUT.
How do you spend your summer days?

Jumpin’ Like an Animal!

June 8th, 2011

Jumpin Like an Animal!

So you think you can jump, huh? Well, chances are, even if your legs are part springs, you probably don’t compare to some of the Animal Kingdom’s hot shots. In fact, if we could choose a few of nature’s MVP’s, we’d put a jersey on these guys:

Hare – did you know that this cuddly hopper can jump 45 miles per hour? That’s a speedy hop!

Grasshopper – grasshoppers can jump 20 times their own body length. That’s like a human clearing a basketball court!

Kangaroo rat – there’s a reason they’re named for the hoppity mammal from down under. A kangaroo rat can jump 45 times their own length.

Jumping spider – try catching this guy. Able to clear 100 times their own length, you may want to steer clear of arachnid.

Flea – Sure, they’re tiny. But these little guys are the world’s best jumpers. They get the true gold medal for jumping — 150 times their height.

Traveling with the Kids

Traveling with the Kids

It’s a sad but realistic truth; your family can’t spend EVERY waking minute jumping around at FLIPnOUT fun centers (cue dramatic movie music). Like, for instance, on road trips. And since one of the most popular road-trip weekends of the year is coming right up, we thought we’d talk about something we’re pretty good at – entertainment!

If you’ve ever traveled with kids, you know that keeping the youngsters entertained in the confines of a minivan can be close to impossible. Why not take the creative route and keep those kiddies busy (hopefully not pinching each other) for those long hours on the freeway.

Here are a few car games to try out this weekend, brought to you by Travel Hacker:

1.         The Grocery Game: Whether you want to challenge your memory or just whet your appetite for lunch, the grocery game is a great way to pass the time on your drive. One person starts with naming something that can be bought at the grocery store that starts with the letter ‘A’, such as “apples”. The next player would have to repeat the first person’s answer as well as add on a food that begins with the letter ‘B’. If you mess up, you’re out, and the game continues until only one memory-gifted player remains. If you get bored with groceries, try using another topic.

2.         License Plate Lingo: You can use the license plates of the cars around you to provide entertainment for your kids. The goal of this game is to come up with a phrase using the letters on passing license plates. For example, if you see a plate with the letters “EIC,” your phrase could be “eat ice cream.”. You can make this game as silly or as serious as you’d like.

3.         Map Monitors: One easy way to keep children entertained on the road is to engage them in the process of travel. Give each child a map of your trip and allow them to keep track of your progress using stickers, coloring or something else your child enjoys.

4.         That’s My Car!: Compete with your fellow passengers to see who can get the sweetest ride. Have each kid choose a car from the next 5 that you pass or that pass by you to be his or her “own” car. All players mutually decide who has the best car of those that are “owned” and that person is the winner.

See lots more!

Go for the Record!

Go for the Record!

If you thought jumping was just for fun, think again; there have been more than a few attempts (and plenty of successes) in setting some serious jump records – and we mean Guinness records (told you they were serious).

In 2004, Kotetsu the pig set the record for the highest jump – for a pig. At a farm in Japan, he jumped an impressive 2 feet 3 inches.

Ever wondered how many times you can jump in and out of a pair of underwear in one minute? Well, Mattieu Bommier, of France, can do it 27 times, as of his 2001 record.

You’ve heard about the long jump, right? How about the reverse long jump? Jan Hempel of Germany jumped backwards 6 feet 7 inches in 2002.

And if you’re ready to “stick” the landing, maybe you should consult Jari Monkkonen of Finland who performed the longest standing jump with a handstand landing. He jumped 7 feet 4 inches to land on his hands!

Are YOU ready to jump around?

FLIPin’ Fun Foods

FLIPin’ Fun Foods
The weather is heating up in Las Vegas! And there’s nothing better than a jumping session on a late spring day followed by some crazy fun food! So bring the family to FLIPnOUT, then save some dough (but not the fun) and eat at home with this wacky creation, care of Food Network.
Pizza on a stick• 1 cup sliced pepperoni • 1 cup sliced Italian sausage • 1/2 French bread loaf, toasted and cubed • 1/2 green pepper, cut into bite-sized pieces • 1/2 cup halved fresh mushrooms • 1/2 cup zucchini slices • 1/4 cup Italian dressing • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella • 1 cup spaghetti sauce, warmed Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Thread meat, bread, and veggies onto skewers. (My kids entirely do this part on their own, and I encourage them to make creative patterns.) Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet, and brush with Italian dressing. Sprinkle with cheese and bake for 20 minutes, until heated through and cheese is melted. Serve with warm spaghetti sauce for dipping
